Engine ran smoothly during 5 minute climb but then began to lose power for a further minute before Sam completely eased off throttle and headed back. I initially suspected seizing as his 'Egg' doesn't have a cooling fan, relying instead on prop for sufficient draft. We tried running the engine after landing and it seemed fine (seizing, I guess would be a more sudden occurence) so then I thought maybe the fuel was possibly frothing in carburettor bowl. Another possibility is that the jet is really too big (#100 as oppose to #90) and that the spark plug might have become fouled up with fuel/carbon????? I will check it out asap.
As it needs to be on full power most of the time the noise might be an issue too. We may need to invest in a different silencer.
There was also a communications failure between ground and pilot (crap PMR radios) and so Sam didn't hear any of my messages.
There is still lots of development and ideas to test out, who ever said life was easy??? ;o)
Oh!!!! I nearly forgot, there's a couple of failed launch attempts by yours truly at the end of the video.
