Gramalaya, an organization working to improve sanitation in the southern region of Tamilnadu, along with its partners has initiated a programme wherein trained outreach staff meet Panchayat school children and talk to them about why they should switch to toilet and not go out in the open.
The Poem: Azhagana Ooraam (Tamil)
Azhagaana Ooraam, Angange veedaam
Ooorai suththi malamaam, malathin mele eekkalaam
Eekal kaalil kirumiyam, sothu mele ukkarudhaam
Soththai thinna thambikku, vayathupokku vandhadhaam
Akkavukkum vandhadhaal, ammavukku azhugayaam
Azhagana oorum, asingamaana orrachu
Angange malam kazhichu, engum noi endrachu
Malathinaal noi kirumi, paravudhaam
Veetukkoru kazhivarai, Oorellaam kattanum
Kazhipparaiyil malam kazhichu
Kavalai indri vaazhanum
(The above poem is penned by Mr. S. Damodaran, Founder-Director of Gramalaya, Trichy. His poems on sanitation for children have been published as a book with assistance from WaterAid.)....
